United States manager Jurgen Klinsmann has criticised the appointment of Algerian referee Djamel Haimoudi ahead of his side’s World Cup second round meeting with Belgium on Tuesday evening, reports the Daily Mail.

Haimoudi has so far refereed two matches at this World Cup, but Klinsmann believes that he should not be awarded this particular match because the Belgian players may be able to communicate better with the officials.

'We hope it’s not a concern,' said Klinsmann when asked of the appointment in his press conference. 'He did two games already and did them well. I hope he continues to referee in the perfect way he has so far.'

'But is it a good feeling? No, because Algeria came from same group as Belgium and he speaks French like their players. He will be able to speak to their players and not to us.

'It is also the same country we beat in the last second at the last World Cup, but it is what it is. I know it’s tricky for FIFA to select the right referee for the right games. We respect the decision and hope that everything goes well. We will give him the benefit of the doubt.'

Victory for the United States would see them reach the last eight of the World Cup for the first time since 2002, with Argentina or Switzerland lying in wait for the winner of this clash at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.
