Sky Sports have confirmed that Adam Lallana has finalised his move from Southampton to Liverpool.

Adam Lallana

The 26-year-old midfielder has been the subject of much speculation in recent months, but has finally put pen to paper for the Anfield club. The transfer, rumoured to be worth in the region of £25 million, was completed after Lallana passed a medical examination.

Lallana expressed his thrill at the move, telling Liverpool’s official website: "I'm so excited for the next chapter of my career, coming to a special club like Liverpool. I'm quite humbled and I just can't wait to get started.”

Lallana has spent his entire career to date with the Saints, other than a brief loan spell with fellow south coast side AFC Bournemouth. He made over 250 appearances in all competitions for Southampton after making his debut at age 18 in 2006. Lallana had also captained the side since 2012.

His club form earned him an international call-up, and he played in all three of England’s games at the World Cup in Brazil, including a start in their final match against Costa Rica.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers described how happy he was to have secured Lallana’s services, both for his personal attributes as well as his footballing ability. "He has leadership skills and personal qualities that make him a special commodity and I am delighted we have acted decisively to make sure he is wearing a Liverpool shirt next season,” said Rodgers.

Lallana will be reunited with his former Southampton team mate Rickie Lambert, who made the switch to Anfield earlier this summer.
