Fulham prepare big bid for Leeds captain McCormack

Tuesday 01 July 2014

Fulham are still in pursuit of Ross McCormack, despite having previous bids for the Leeds United captain turned down, reports The Yorkshire Post.

Ross McCormack

The Leeds squad departed for a two-week training camp in northern Italy yesterday, however McCormack did not travel with them, fuelling speculation that a transfer may be imminent.

The 27-year-old Scottish international is rumoured to have had a meeting with Leeds owner Massimo Cellino in which he told of his wish to leave Elland Road. However, Cellino will not allow his captain to leave on the cheap. Having previously said that he would only allow McCormack to join a top-flight team, it appears he will now be prepared to let him join Championship rivals if the price is right.

McCormack began his career in his native Glasgow with Rangers, before stints with Motherwell and Cardiff City. He joined Leeds in 2010 and made 158 appearances in all competitions for the West Yorkshire outfit.

After being named club captain in January of this year, McCormack has been constantly linked with moves away from Elland Road, with a bid from West Ham apparently being rejected alongside reported interest from Newcastle United, Norwich City and Derby County.

Fulham’s recent bid of £5 million was rejected by Cellino, meaning that should the transfer be completed this week as predicted, the fee will have to be far higher.
