Diego Costa close to Chelsea switch
Atletico Madrid are reported to be ready to allow Diego Costa to move to Stamford Bridge, according to The Daily Mail.
The Spanish international striker has a buy-out clause in his contract that would be triggered by a bid of £32 million, a fee which Chelsea have been reported as ready to match. However, up to now the Madrid side have been unwilling to authorise the transfer, with the Blues concerned that the Spaniards are holding out for a better price from a rival bidder.
But it is now thought that Atletico will let Costa leave as they prepare to swoop for Manchester City’s Spanish star Alvaro Negredo, planning to use the funds raised from Costa’s sale to finance that move.
Costa scored a highly impressive 35 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for Atletico in 2013/14 as Los Rojiblancos won La Liga and reached the final of the Champions League. However, he endured a miserable World Cup for Spain having made a controversial switch from his native Brazil.
The potential Stamford Bridge switch could be one of several pieces of business between Chelsea and Atletico this summer, with Jose Mourinho also chasing full back Filipe Luis, while Atletico have expressed interest in Blues striker Romelu Lukaku.
