Wednesday 02 July 2014

New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is closing on his first signing of the summer after Sky Sports understood a bid had been lodged for striker Graziano Pelle.

The Italian has been a sensation in the Eredivisie after moving to Feyenoord from Parma, scoring 55 goals in 66 appearances in all competitions since 2012 – 50 of these in the league.

Sky sources believe the club have made their first move the player, although the bid falls short of the €12m valuation.

Koeman sees the six foot three inch striker as the perfect addition to his squad, with Rickie Lambert having already departed for Liverpool, as he braces himself for more stars to leave St Mary’s.

Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw have also left the club in big money deals as Southampton pay the price for a super season – with Dejan Lovren, Morgan Shcneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez all targets of bigger clubs.

It is also thought that the manager has made a move for FC Twente’s Dusan Tadic, as Koeman raids the Dutch market he is vary familiar with.
