Arsenal and Liverpool to compete for Sanchez signing
Arsenal are set to battle Liverpool for the signing of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, with the Spanish runner-up reportedly prepared to let him leave this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Sanchez scored an impressive 19 goals in La Liga last season, and was a standout performer for Chile as they almost reached the last eight of the World Cup. However, Barcelona have set their sights on signing Luis Suarez from Liverpool, with reports of Sanchez moving to Anfield as part of the deal.
That decision will ultimately be made by Sanchez, with a bid of around £80m expected to tempt the Reds into selling the Uruguayan. Brendan Rodgers is keen to add a player with proven Champions League experience to his squad this summer, although he may lose Suarez.
His Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger is aiming to add more strength in depth to his side, and wants to make a big-name signing. The 25-year-old is said to prefer a move to the Emirates Stadium, and the club have already opened talks with Barcelona over a £22m move, a fee which may increase in the coming weeks.
