Liverpool move for Tottenham’s Stewart
Defender Kevin Stewart has agreed terms to transfer from Tottenham to Liverpool, The Daily Mail has confirmed.
The 20-year-old prospect has agreed a two-year contract at Anfield, and is clearly delighted with the move.
Although born in London, Stewart has always been a Liverpool supporter. On completing the transfer, he changed his Twitter profile to show a photo of himself as a child practicing his skills in full Liverpool kit, and wrote: “Delighted to have signed for LFC! It’s been a dream of mine from a kid! Thank you for all of the welcoming messages!”
Stewart is known primarily as a full back, and can play on either the left or right side of defence. He came through the youth system at Tottenham, although ultimately he never managed to make a competitive appearance for Spurs.
His only senior football experience to date was late in the 2012/13 season when he made four League One appearances in a loan spell with Crewe Alexandra, helping the Railwaymen to two victories with clean sheets.
The signing of Stewart underlines Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool’s commitment to English talent, after they captured the signings of highly-rated Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana earlier in the summer.
