Richards heading for Man City exit

Manchester City are said to be happy to accept a cut-price deal to offload defender Micah Richards, according to BBC Sport.

Micah Richards

The 26-year-old still has a year to run on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, but it seems that the Blues would be happy to take any transfer fee they can get this summer, and a source close to the defender has claimed it is unlikely he will stay with City.

Richards has suffered a succession of injuries, and it is thought that any transfer deal may have to comprise of a smaller initial fee with add-on clauses included to trigger further payments depending on appearances.

Richards was born in Birmingham, but has spent his entire career to date with City. After making his debut at age 17 in 2005 he has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.

He has international honours having represented England at every level from under-16s, and has 13 senior caps to his name. Richards also represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games, as one of the three permitted over-age players in Stuart Pearce’s squad.

Following Bacary Sagna’s arrival, however, he could find opportunities with the Premier League champions even harder to come by should he remain in Manchester. Liverpool, Newcastle United and Arsenal have all been recently linked with his services.
