Arsenal are ready to make a £20m bid for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, after Napoli entered the race to sign the Frenchman, the Daily Express has reported.

Morgan Schneiderlin

The 24-year-old, who has been with the South coast club since 2008, has emerged as a target for some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs after some standout performances last season as his side finished eighth with a record number of points. It has also earned him a place in the French squad for the World Cup.

Schneiderlin is open to the possibility of a move, but the Saints are determined to keep hold of him having already lost the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw already this summer.

Napoli have stepped up their interest in Schneiderlin over recent days, leading Arsenal to prepare the offer of £20m, which would meet Southampton’s current asking price. The Gunners are aiming to add a holding midfield player to their squad this summer.

Tottenham are also said to be linked with a move, with their manager Mauricio Pochettino perhaps keen on a reunion with Schneiderlin, as he looks to build Spurs into a side capable of regularly making the Champions League.
