Di Maria ‘offered to Man Utd for £40m’
Real Madrid have offered Manchester United the chance to sign winger Angel Di Maria for £40m, according to the Daily Star.
Talks over a new and improved contract for Di Maria at the Bernabeu have stalled, reportedly because Real Madrid are unwilling to meet his high wage demands. They are now testing the market for the Argentine, but Man Utd value him closer to £30m and so could be reluctant to meeting the European champions’ asking price.
Di Maria is said to be unsure about moving to a club which will not be competing in the Champions League next season, but Real Madrid believe that a deal could take place, with agent Jorge Mendes now negotiating a deal.
The money would allow Real Madrid to launch a big-money offer for Monaco and Colombia star James Rodriguez, who is currently the leading scorer at this summer’s World Cup. Man Utd are now the favourites to sign Di Maria, despite interest from Arsenal, Juventus and Paris St. Germain.
Man Utd have already spent a combined total of almost £60m for two summer signings, with Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw arriving from Athletic Bilbao and Southampton respectively.
