Ashley Cole in Roma talks

Saturday 05 July 2014

Former Chelsea man Ashley Cole has jetted to Italy to hold talks with Roma after becoming a free agent this summer, the Daily Mail has reported.

The left back saw his current deal with Chelsea run down after the club chose to not renew it and was also left out of England’s World Cup squad in favour of youngster Luke Shaw, prompting his retirement from the national side with 107 caps to his name.

There has been plenty of interest in the defender from around the world with top clubs contemplating a move, being linked with a return to former club Arsenal, while title chasing Liverpool were a mooted destination along with Barcelona and AC Milan.

Monaco and unnamed MLS franchises were also interested.

But Cole has headed to the Italian capital to discuss any potential over a two year deal being extended his way.

He spent eight years at Stamford Bridge in a glittering part of his career, winning nine trophies in total with the Blues – one league title, four FA Cups, a League Cup, Community Shield, the Champions League and Europa League.
