Aston Villa stars not for sale, warns Lambert

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has warned other clubs that key players such as captain Ron Vlaar and midfielder Fabian Delph will not be leaving this summer, the Daily Mail has reported.

The Scot’s comments come ahead of the start of pre-season training for his side, with the club still yet to have found a new owner, with Randy Lerner having put it up for sale in May after eight years at the helm.

The failure to find a buyer thus far has created great uncertainty around the West Midlands side, and it has meant that they are only able to sign players on free transfers at present. Joe Cole and Philippe Senderos have so far been brought in as free agents.

The uncertainty has led to question marks about the future of Vlaar and Delph as well as forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, who all have just one year left on their contracts. However, Lambert reaffirmed his desire to keep his key players on the club. He said: ‘I don’t think anyone will go without me saying so. Put it that way.

‘I think the lads are happy here and want to get going again. Things will happen with those lads in the next little bit. That will take course through the season. Once we come back on Monday the things will start to roll. I had to get the staff sorted out first.’
