Arsenal linked with triple swoop

Arsenal are nearing a tremendous triple of signings that would see them part with £60m as they look to bolster a title challenging squad, the Telegraph has reported.

Arsene Wenger looks to have reignited his interest in German midfielder Lars Bender, for whom he saw a £19m bid rejected last summer, while deals to bring Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez are taking steps closer to being completed.

It was thought that Wenger’s top transfer priorities this summer were a right back, central midfielder and a striker, and while no deal is complete for either player the three moves would represent a successful swoop.

Bender was part of Germany’s provisional World Cup squad but pulled out due to a thigh injury.

At 25-years-old he has been identified as the man to replace the aging Mikel Arteta who is 32, and sees his contract expire next year.

Talks have been scheduled for this summer and the Spanish anchor man will be hoping his consistency over the past three years – he has played 124 times for the Gunners – will be enough to convince the club he is worth a new deal.

Wenger has tended to only offer one year extensions to players over 30 but is reportedly keen to keep Arteta on as a squad player for the future.

Meanwhile the club is thought to have almost agreed a deal for right back Debuchy, with not much difference between their £10 m valuation and Newcastle’s £12m.

Sanchez is altogether a more complicated transfer with Liverpool still negotiating a deal with Barcelona for Luis Suarez, with them keen to take Sanchez on.

However the player has spoken of his desire to player for Arsenal and a £34m fee is thought to be almost agreed.
