Man City sign Caballero
Premier League champions Manchester City have signed Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero, ESPN has reported.
The Argentine joins as competition for Joe Hart after Costel Pantilimon was allowed to leave when his contract expired at the end of the season. The Romanian has moved to Sunderland on a free transfer.
Caballero moves to the Etihad Stadium for £6m after spending three years with Malaga, where he played under City boss Manuel Pellegrini. He made more than 100 appearances for the south coast club, having originally moved to Spain to join Elche from Boca Juniors.
Malaga are said to have tried to keep Caballero but he and Pellegrini have been reunited after helping Malaga into a Champions League qualification place. Caballero, who won caps for the Argentina youth sides but has never played for the seniors, was part of the Malaga squad that reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Pellegrini has already added Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna and Porto midfielder Fernando to his squad, with ESPN claiming they are also in the market for a centre-back. Pellegrini can already call on captain Vincent Kompany, Matija Nastasic and Martin Demichelis - another former Malaga player - but Joleon Lescott was allowed to leave on a free transfer this summer.
