Newcastle keen on Arsenal’s Jenkinson
Newcastle could move for Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson as part of the Gunners’ bid for Mathieu Debuchy, the Daily Mail has reported.
Debuchy is said to have had a medical in preparation for a switch to the London club and Jenkinson could move in the opposite direction, while the Magpies have also expressed an interest in Arsenal’s Costa Rica international Joel Campbell.
Newcastle have a number of other potential replacements for Debuchy in mind, including Netherlands international Daryl Janmaat, Ajaxs’s Ricardo van Rhijn and Manchester City’s Micah Richards.
Campbell would act as a replacement for Loic Remy, who spent the season on loan in Tyneside but has now returned to Queens Park Rangers, while Arsenal would like Campbell to get Premier League experience after loan spells with Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiakos.
Jenkinson meanwhile moved to Arsenal in 2011 after beginning his career with Charlton Athletic. He’s made 57 appearances under Arsene Wenger, scoring once, and won the FA Cup last season. Jenkinson has also won an England cap, coming off the bench against Sweden in 2012.
