Sergio Aguero may be involved in Argentina’s World Cup semi-final against the Netherlands despite injuring his groin earlier in the tournament, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Coach Alejandro Sabella has suggested the Manchester City striker could feature and the South Americans are without midfielder Angel Di Maria, which could lead to a reshuffle. Sabella told a press conference that Aguero’s condition is improving and could be called upon if need be.

“Aguero is better,” Sabella confirmed. “He has trained with more intensity and he is now fit to play. Let’s see the circumstances of the game if we need him. I can’t confirm the starting line-up just yet but Enzo Perez is likely to replace Angel Di Maria on the left.”

The winners of the match will play Germany, who destroyed Brazil in Tuesday’s semi-final, routing the hosts 7-1. Should the Dutch go through it will be a second consecutive final but Argentina haven’t been at this stage since they finished as runners-up in 1990.

Aguero featured in each of Argentina’s group games, starting against Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran and Nigeria, but didn’t complete the 90 minutes in any of them. He was subbed off after 87 minutes in the first game and 77 minutes in the second, before injury ended his third game after little more than half-an-hour.
