Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has signed a new five-year deal at the club, which will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2019, the London Evening Standard has reported.

There had been speculation about the Frenchman’s future, with Lloris linked with a summer move away from Tottenham. Ligue 1 champions Paris St. Germain were said to be preparing a bid for the 27-year-old.

He now extends his stay at Spurs, where he has played his football for two seasons. In that time he has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but has been unable to help the club reach the Champions League, instead having to be content with a place in the Europa League again next season.

Lloris, who has made 78 appearances for Tottenham, has revealed that the ambition of chairman Daniel Levy has led him to sign this new deal. He said: “I spoke with the chairman and I know the club is as ambitious as ever. It’s very important to feel at home at a club and for my family to feel well.

“I enjoy a great relationship with the club and the fans. The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino is important as well. I have a good feeling with him. He is also ambitious. Everything is clear in my head and if I’ve signed a new contract it’s because I trust the club and I’m sure we will progress in a positive way.”
