Southampton linked with Celtic goalkeeper Forster
Southampton are lining up a bid of £8m for Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster, and new Saints boss Ronald Koeman looks to rebuild the squad at St.Mary’s, reports the Daily Star.
Forster travelled to Brazil as part of the England squad for this summer’s World Cup, acting as third choice goalkeeper, but did not have any game time. It now appears that Koeman is eyeing the 26-year-old as a possible replacement for his Celtic predecessor, Artur Boruc, as the No.1 at Southampton.
He has now been at Celtic for four seasons, with the first two having been on loan from Newcastle United. In that time he has helped the club to three consecutive Scottish titles, the Scottish Cup, and the knockout stages of the Champions League in 2013.
The proposed deal for Forster is part of a planned £70m summer spending spree from the South coast club, using the money they received for departed trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw.
Celtic have already acted in the knowledge that they face a fight to keep Forster at Parkhead, having signed former Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon at the end of June. Their Ducth defender Virgil van Dijk has also attracted interest from Southampton.
