Sanchez close to Everton move

Everton have trigged the release clause of Elche’s Colombia international Carlos Sanchez, according to Football Espana.

Carlos Sanchez

Reports from Spain claim that Everton have registered a €2m offer with the Spanish league, the LFP, and are close to agreeing a four-year contract with the 28-year-old.

Sanchez only moved to Elche last summer, having previously played for French outfit Valenciennes. He spent six years with the club, beginning his career at Uruguayan club River Plate, making more than 150 appearances in France and almost 50 for the Uruguayans.

Elche signed Sanchez upon their promotion to the top flight of Spanish football last season and he made 30 appearances as Los Ilicitanos avoided relegation. Sanchez also featured four times for Colombia at the World Cup, playing against Greece and Ivory Coast at the group stage and Uruguay and Brazil in the knockout rounds.

His contractual situation is said to be complicated by third-party ownership, however, with Elche not having full control over his registration - two agencies are thought to hold significant percentages of Sanchez’s economic rights.
