Sunderland eye £8m move for Borini

Friday 11 July 2014

Sunderland are set to offer Liverpool a fee of £8m as they look to sign striker Fabio Borini after a successful loan spell last season, according to the Daily Mail.

Fabio Borini

The Italian spent the whole of the campaign at the Stadium of Light, with his first goal for Sunderland being the winner against bitter rivals Newcastle United at the end of October. He then went on to net six more times in the Premier League as he helped them survive relegation against the odds.

Black Cats boss Gustavo Poyet has made no secret of his desire to bring Borini to Wearside on a permanent deal, but the club has yet to agree a fee with Liverpool, where the 23-year-old has been since the summer of 2012. His first season at Anfield was ruined somewhat by injuries, and since then he has suffered due to the form of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

With Liverpool looking to sign other strikers to cover the expected departure of Suarez to Barcelona, Borini may be heading to the North East again for next season, although the deal is some way away from being completed.
