Stoichkov criticises Barca for selling Sanchez to Arsenal
Former Barcelona forward Hristo Stoichnov has criticised the Spanish club for selling Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal, ESPN has reported.
Sanchez’s arrival was last night confirmed by the Gunners, for a fee believed to be in the region of £30m. Barca have since moved for Luis Suarez, confirming an agreement with Liverpool to sign the Uruguay forward, but Stoichkov thinks a mistake has been made by letting Sanchez.
Stoichkov went so far as to suggest the Barca hierarchy don’t know anything about football if they think Sanchez was a player who could be sacrificed after last season’s disappointing campaign.
“Because of those who do not understand football we must sell the best player we have at Barca,” the Bulgarian said. “The policy of Barca was always like this, they do not like great players.
“[Alexis] is the best player for his pace, his battling qualities. He fights for every ball, he plays for the team. I like his mentality. He is leaving with his head high. He is a decisive player.”
Sanchez moved to Barca in 2011 from Udinese, having started his career at Cobreola. He also spent time at River Plate, on loan from Udinese, and represented Chile at this summer’s World Cup, helping La Roja to the Round of 16.
