Crystal Palace are close to completing the signing of Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell for a fee of around £600,000, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Tony Pulis

Despite scoring six goals in 37 Premier League appearances last season, he was unable to prevent the Bluebirds from being relegated back to the Championship after only one season among the elite. He joined the club in January 2013 and initially helped them to promotion after being tempted to leave Sunderland.

Since the end of last season, a buyout clause in his contract has been triggered, with three Premier League sides all agreeing to meet the fee. Campbell has now decided to move to Selhurst Park, refusing interest from newly promoted duo Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers.

Once the deal is completed he will join his new teammates at a training camp is Austria. Crystal Palace is Campbell’s sixth Premier League club, having previously played for Manchester United, Tottenham and Hull City prior to his move to Sunderland.

Eagles boss Tony Pulis is also interested in signing Campbell’s Cardiff teammate Steven Caulker. They are looking to clinch an £8m move, but are again fighting with QPR for his signature.
