Arsenal confident of signing Khedira
Arsenal are believed to be moving closer to the signing of World Cup winning Germany midfielder Sami Khedira, with reports in Spain suggesting that a £23m fee has been agreed with Real Madrid, according to the Metro.
Arsene Wenger has already added Barcelona and Chile star Alexis Sanchez to his squad this summer, and is preparing to issue another statement of intent by signing Khedira, who is open to the possibility of leaving Madrid after four years and nine goals in 144 appearances.
The deal is still far from being done, as it still remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be willing to meet the 27-year-old’s wage demands. However, they appear favourites to beat Premier League rivals Chelsea to his signature as Wenger looks to bring in a natural defensive midfielder, something which his squad has lacked since Alexandre Song left for Barcelona in 2012.
Khedira, who missed the final of the World Cup due to picking up an injury in the warm-up, is set to ask for a £150,000 weekly salary, and should the deal go through, he will join international teammates Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukasz Podolski at the Emirates Stadium.
