Newcastle land French midfielder
Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of French playmaker Remy Cabella from Ligue 1 side Montpellier following a long pursuit for the player, Sky Sports has reported.
Cabella has been a long term target for the Magpies since they tried to replace Yohan Cabaye with him back in January, and having been in discussions to strike a deal for the French ace they have finally landed their man – signing the player on a six year contract.
The 24-year-old becomes manager Alan Pardew’s fourth signing of the transfer window, joining Jack Colback, Siem de Jong and Ayoze Perez at St James’ Park.
The France international flew into Newcastle on Sunday to tie up the remaining parts of the transfer, with the club acting cautiously until they eventually bagged one of their top targets of the summer.
Upon signing Cabella said: “It is great to finally be a Newcastle player.
“This is a move that I really wanted to make as I have heard nothing but good things about Newcastle United from everyone I spoke to.
“I'm looking forward to pulling on the shirt and I will give this club my maximum.”
Pardew himself was delighted to finally seal the player’s signature after he was keen to strengthen his options going forward, having lost Shola Ameobi, Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong this summer.
