Liverpool target Rodriguez

Monday 14 July 2014

Brendan Rodgers has added Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez to his list of summer transfer targets, the Daily Mail is reporting, and would be the fourth Southampton star Liverpool bid for should they make their interest concrete.

Rodriguez is currently side-lined after surgery on the ruptured anterior cruciate suffered against Manchester City towards the end of last season, and would be out of action until at least October – but he is still admired by Rodgers.

Following the sale of Uruguayan star Luis Suarez to Barcelona, the club has £75m to spend and have already concluded three deals thought to total in the region of £40m – German midfielder Emre Can, along with former Southampton duo Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.

The Reds have also seen a bid turned down for Saints centre back Dejan Lovren as they raid the Southern club, whose squad impressed last season as they finished eighth in the league.

Lovren is unhappy at being unable to move and despite threatening strike action returned to pre-season last week at the club, but with Liverpool set to continue to strengthen in hopes of another title challenge this campaign, bids for both him and Rodriguez could surface soon.
