Cavani ‘wants Premier League move’
Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is said to have instructed his agent to look into arranging a move to the Premier League, the Independent has reported, with Manchester United said to be leading candidates for his signature.
Cavani only moved to PSG from Napoli last summer, the Parisians paying €64.5m to buy the Uruguay international. But Cavani has had to play away from his preferred central role to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cavani would seek guarantees he would be favoured at United over the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
There is however no certainty that new United manager Louis van Gaal would give Cavani such assurances, while van Gaal’s close relationship with Robin van Persie would suggest the new boss will favour his compatriot. Van Persie captained the Netherlands at the World Cup under van Gaal, helping the team to third place.
United also have the likes of midfielder Juan Mata, signed from Chelsea in January, Javier Hernandez, the Mexico international forward and Shinji Kagawa, the Japan playmaker bought from Borussia Dortmund.
Reports in France have claimed that PSG could be interested in a swap deal that would see Rooney head to Ligue 1 in part-exchange for Cavani.
Cavani scored once at the World Cup, in Uruguay’s opening defeat to Costa Rica, and netted 25 times in 43 games last season.
