Liverpool striker Aspas set for Sevilla loan move
Liverpool striker Iago Aspas is on the verge of returning to Spain by completing a season-long loan move to Europa League winners Sevilla, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Managing director Ian Ayre has flown to Spain to negotiate a deal for Aspas, whose move back to his homeland could eventually be made permanent should Sevilla put in an offer that would see Liverpool recoup a large percentage of the £8m fee they spent to sign him from Celta Vigo last summer.
Despite scoring plenty of goals in La Liga and beginning his Liverpool career with an impressive pre-season, he struggled when it came to competitive matches, and his first-team opportunities became increasingly limited. In total last season he made just 15 appearances, with his only goal coming in an FA Cup tie against Oldham Athletic.
Aspas has agreed to move back to Spain for next season, while left-back Alberto Moreno could be moving the other way, with Liverpool still interested despite seeing an initial £16m bid rejected. Another summer target, Benfica’s Lazar Markovic, is set to have a medical on Monday ahead of a proposed move to Anfield.
