Arsenal set for £20m Khedira deal

Arsenal are said to have agreed to bring World Cup winner Sami Khedira to the Emirates for a fee believed to be £20m, according to the Daily Star.

The German star has been top of manager Arsene Wenger’s targets since he captured Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez for £35m and is reportedly desperate to make the midfielder his second big money signing of the summer.

Madrid appear keen to move the player on as he is in the last 12 months of his contract and do not wish to lose him for nothing come next summer.

And with new contract talks collapsing last month, Khedira has already asked fellow Germans Per Mertesaker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski about life in London with Arsenal whilst at the World Cup.

Khedira has made 144 appearances for Madrid since arriving from Stuttgart back in 2010 but saw his campaign limited to just 18 games last season because of a terrible knee injury.

Chelsea had been linked with the player after Jose Mourinho was reportedly keen to link up with him once more having signed him for Madrid when he was manager at the Bernabeu.

But it appears Arsenal are willing to pull out all the stops to sign Khedira – despite his large £150,000 a week wage demands.

Should this move come to fruition it would represent another huge statement of intent from Wenger as the club look to build on their FA Cup success last season – their first trophy in nine seasons.
