Arsenal to wrap up Debuchy deal
Arsenal should complete the signing of Newcastle United right-back Mathieu Debuchy in the very near future, according to ESPN.
Debuchy has strongly hinted he is to leave Tyneside for the capital as Arsene Wenger looks to replace Bacary Sagna, who left Arsenal for Manchester City. Wenger is said to want to confirm the capture of Debuchy as soon as possible.
But the delay has been put down to Newcastle’s desire to have a replacement guaranteed before signing off on Debuchy’s exit. Netherlands international Daryl Janmaat is expected to join the Magpies shortly, which would allow Debuchy to join Arsenal, after Newcastle Alan Pardew identified his preferred choice having missed out on other targets.
Debuchy joined Newcastle from Lille in January 2013 and went on to make 46 appearances for the club. He had previously played 300 times for Lille, winning the Ligue 1 title with Les Dogues in 2010-11.
The 28-year-old also has 25 caps for France since his debut in 2011 and was part of Les Bleus’ World Cup squad, playing four times at the tournament.
