QPR keen on Aston Villa captain Vlaar
Queens Park Rangers are set to register their interest in Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar by making a £4m offer for the Dutchman, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Vlaar’s performances have been a key factor in keeping Villa in the Premier League over the past two seasons, where they have fought relegation battles. He went on to be a key man in the Netherlands defence at the World Cup, helping them to the semi-finals, where they lost on penalties to Argentina.
Villa boss Paul Lambert is confident of keeping Vlaar at the club despite all the uncertainty at present regarding ownership, with the Scot having insisted the West Midlands side are under no pressure to sell their key players. The 29-year-old has recently entered the final year of his contract.
Harry Redknapp has made signing a central defender one of his top priorities for the summer ahead of QPR’s return tothe Premier League. They have had their sights set on Cardiff City’s Steven Caulker, but he looks more likely to join Crystal Palace. However, they have now turned their attentions to Vlaar, and believe that a £4m offer could test Villa’s resolve.
