Real Madrid have completed the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos on a six-year contract for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £24m, BBC Sport is reporting.

The German World Cup winner’s future with the Bundesliga champions had been under considerable doubt for several months, with Manchester United having registered an interest in the 24-year-old. However, the Red Devils turned their attentions to other targets, allowing Real Madrid to step in and complete a deal.

Kroos, who played in all seven games and scored twice for his country as they lifted football’s ultimate prize at the Maracana on Sunday, will be unveiled to the Real Madrid supporters later on Thursday, having completed a medical.

Despite initially claiming that he would move on next summer at the expiry of his Bayern contract, Kroos now leaves the Allianz Arena after an eight-year association with the club, during which he has helped to win three German titles and three German cups, as well as the Champions League, European Super Cup and World Club Championship in 2013.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rumenigge said: "We would like to thank Toni Kroos for his time here in Munich. We enjoyed great success here together. We would like to wish him and his family all the best in Madrid and with Real."
