Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo has denied rumours that he may leave Manchester City, insisting that he is happy in the Premier League, reports BBC Sport.

Poor late season form prompted speculation that Negredo may seek a return home to Spain, but he issued a strong denial in an interview published on the club’s official website.

“I don't want to leave City. I'm very happy and very settled here,” Negredo confirmed. “I had a difficult end to the season and that's why there has been a lot of talking, but I've been very happy here from the first day I arrived.”

The powerful 28-year-old arrived at the Etihad Stadium in July 2013 from Sevilla in a deal reported to be worth up to £20 million. He enjoyed success in the first half of the season, and became the first ever Manchester City player to score a Champions League hat trick after scoring three of the Blues’ goals in the 5-2 thrashing of CSKA Moscow.

But after scoring twice in the Capital One Cup semi final second leg victory over West Ham United at Upton Park in January, Negredo failed to find the target again for the rest of the season. Despite this drought he still posted an impressive return of 23 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.

As well as prompting transfer rumours, the loss of form also cost Negredo a place in Spain’s World Cup squad, despite having scored crucial goals in their final two qualifiers against Belarus and Georgia that helped Spain qualify as group winners.
