Arsenal facing competition for Ospina
Arsenal are facing last-minute competition for Valencia as they look to sign Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina from French club Nice, according to the Metro.
Ospina’s performances at the World Cup, as Colombia reached the quarter-finals for the first time in their history, were impressive. Over the competition he conceded only three goals, attracting the attention of Arsenal, who are after a new goalkeeper this summer.
Wojciech Szczesny has been the first choice between the Emirates Stadium posts for the last three and-a-half seasons, but manager Arsene Wenger is keen to sign a high-profile stopper to provide sufficient competition after the departure of Lukasz Fabianski to Swansea City.
A £3.2m fee was said to have been agreed between Arsenal and Nice, but no deal has been completed. As a result, Valencia have been able to register their interest, while reports have suggested that another Spanish club is considering a bid as well as a side in Mexico.
The 25-year-old Ospina has been with Nice for six years since joining from Nacional in his homeland. He has gone on to make 199 appearances and keep 65 clean sheets.
