West Brom sign striker Ideye
West Bromwich Albion have broken their transfer record to sign Dynamo Kiev striker Brown Ideye for a fee in the region of £10m, BBC Sport has reported.
The Baggies announced the deal on Friday, with the Nigerian international becoming their fifth summer signing after Craig Gardner, Sebastien Pocognoli, Chris Baird and Joleon Lescott. The club’s previous transfer record was set last summer when Stephane Sessegnon arrived from Premier League rivals Sunderland.
Ideye has an impressive scoring record for each of the clubs he has played for, having previously represented Swiss club Xamax and French side Sochaux. Since his arrival in Ukraine in the summer of 2011, he has scored 45 goals in 107 outings.
He also has 24 caps and five goals for Nigeria, helping them to success in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013. However, he was not selected to be part of their 23-man squad for the World Cup.
Upon securing the deal, West Brom Head Coach Alan Irvine said: "Brown is a quality striker and I'm looking forward to working with him. He's a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get in behind defences and has plenty of Champions League and international experience."
