Tottenham set to complete Davies capture
Tottenham are moving ever closer to completing the signing of Swansea City left-back Ben Davies, having beaten off interest from rivals Liverpool, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful of wrapping up the deal over the weekend, having agreed a £10m fee with Swansea. Spurs initially hoped to sign Davies at an earlier date, only for Liverpool to step in with an offer of their own. The Merseyside club’s £8m proposal was turned down by the Swans.
Liverpool were prepared to increase their bid after becoming frustrated in their pursuit to sign Alberto Moreno from Europa League winners Sevilla. However, despite not being able to provide Davies with the chance of playing Champions League football, Tottenham have given him more assurances over a regular first-team place.
Swansea now seem resigned to losing the 21-year-old, who came through their youth system. He emerged when first-choice Neil Taylor suffered an injury in August 2012. Since being handed his chance by Michael Laudrup, he has impressed considerably, keeping Taylor out of the side since his return. Overall, he has made 85 appearances and scored three goals.
