Lukaku ‘to remain at Chelsea’

Sunday 20 July 2014

Chelsea striker Romalu Lukaku could be set to remain at the club for next season, with manager Jose Mourinho reluctant to allow any more first team players to leave, the Metro has reported.

Mourinho has already allowed strikers Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o to depart Stamford Bridge this summer, leaving him with just three striking options ahead of the new season. He said on Friday that had finished his transfer business for the summer, hinting that Lukaku might stay.

Everton have been massively interested in signing the Belgian, having had him on loan at Goodison Park for most of last season. There, he made a strong impact, top scoring as the club achieved its highest number of Premier League points. However, they may be forced to turn to making an offer to sign fellow Chelsea youngster Christian Atsu on loan.

There are now reports that Lukaku is hoping to remain in West London and battle against Fernando Torres and new signing Diego Costa for a starting place. He has been a Chelsea player since the summer of 2011, but has only made 15 appearances, without scoring.
