Casillas ‘looking to join Arsenal’
Reports in Spain have suggested that Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is looking to leave the club and move to FA Cup winners Arsenal, according to the Independent.
Casillas was rumoured to be a target for Arsenal earlier in the summer, but the Gunners have since turned their attentions to Nice stopper David Ospina, who is likely to be worth less and have lower wage demands.
However, the Spaniard, who had a disappointing World Cup, is still keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium. He has been out of favour at Real Madrid for the past two seasons, with Diego Lopez preferred in goal. This has meant that the 33-year-old has mainly been limited to appearances in the cup competitions.
Should he indeed join Arsenal, he would rival Wojciech Szczesny for the No.1 spot, with manager Arsene Wenger aiming to bring in a new goalkeeper to provide more serious competition for the Pole, with previous second choice Lukasz Fabianski having moved to Swansea City.
Casillas is searching for a new challenge and is likely to ask to leave Real Madrid despite spending his entire career at the Bernabeu and becoming one of their most decorated players.
