Cesc Fabregas has said he believes the timing of his move away from Barcelona and back to the Premier League with Chelsea was the right point in his career to do so, according to Sky Sports.

The Spaniard left Arsenal to re-sign for boyhood club Barcelona back in 2011 but has returned to the English top flight after enduring a limited starting berth in the first XI – despite making 55 appearances last season where he scored 13 goals, creating 16 more.

The Gunners had first option to re-sign the man who joined them as a 16-year-old but he opted for a new challenge with rivals Chelsea, after the player sought a change and new challenge in his footballing life.

Fabregas also saw the draw of playing for coach Jose Mourinho as a big factor in the switch to West London.

He said: “It was very important for me that the deal was done before the World Cup.

“I wanted my head free and to know what I was going to do next season and where I was going to be.

“I wanted a change. I looked at all the offers I had and after speaking to the coach, I thought Chelsea was the best decision.

“Jose’s teams are always difficult to beat and always difficult to play against. Tactically they are very well-composed and he gets the best out of his players.”

During the 27-year-old’s first spell in England he made 303 appearances for Arsenal, claiming the captaincy at just 21-years-old.

He scored 57 goals and assisted 98 others during his eight year stay at the North London club.
