Man City’s Negredo facing lengthy lay-off
Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo is facing a long lay-off from football after he fractured a metatarsal during the clubs preseason friendly with Scottish club Hearts, the BBC Sport is reporting.
Negredo suffered the injury during City’s 2-1 win over their Scottish opponents, fracturing his fifth metatarsal – and now faces up to three months side lines and will miss the club’s tour of America along with the opening part of the new season.
The injury forced the Spanish striker off before half time was even reached, and following tests it was confirmed that he would be out for a long period of time.
The player himself confirmed the injury on his Instagram account following the news.
“I want to let you know that it’s going to be hard for the next few months, I fractured my 5th metatarsal and will be out a few months. I will be back stronger than ever,” the striker wrote.
Negredo made an instant impact since arriving from Spanish side Sevilla last summer and despite struggling with a shoulder injury and form in the latter half of the season still managed to score 23 goals in 48 appearances in his debut campaign.
A run of 16 games without a goal meant the striker was left out of Spain’s World Cup squad this summer.
The injury will come as a blow to manager Manuel Pellegrini who was said to be to be willing to listen to offers for the Spaniard, despite the player reiterating his desire to stay at the Etihad.
