Man Utd preparing bid for Blind

Tuesday 22 July 2014

Manchester United are preparing to offer Ajax £17m for defender Daley Blind, and make him their third signing of the summer so far, according to the Daily Express.

Daley Blind

Blind is the latest Dutch international to be linked with a reunion with Louis van Gaal after their impressive World Cup campaign, finishing in third place to exceed pre-tournament expectations. Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw have already moved to Old Trafford since van Gaal was announced as the new manager.

The 24-year-old’s consistency has helped Ajax win four consecutive Eredivisie titles, and his performances last season were enough to earn him the competition’s Player of the Season award, an accolade won by the likes of Luis Suarez and Wilfried Bony in recent years.

Left-backs Patrice Evra and Alexander Buttner have both left Man Utd this summer, meaning Blind could battle with Shaw to be the first choice in the position, but he could also be deployed in defensive midfield. That versatility seems to have convinced van Gaal that Blind could be a key signing for his side, but Ajax will be unwilling to sell.
