Milan in talks with Arsenal striker Campbell
Reports in Italy have suggested that Milan have opened talks Arsenal over the possibility of signing young striker Joel Campbell, according to the Metro.
The reports state that Milan made contact with Arsenal on Wednesday evening to enquire about Campbell’s availability, and now the seven-time European champions believe they can pull of a deal. The 22-year-old has also been the subject of a number of loan offers from across Europe, including one from Sunderland.
Campbell has yet to make a first-team appearance for Arsenal since being signed in the summer of 2011 after some encouraging performances for Costa Rica at that year’s Copa America. He has gone to spend time away from North London, most recently on loan at Olympiakos, where he scored 11 goals in 43 outings.
His efforts at the World Cup, where he helped Costa Rica to their first ever quarter-final appearance, have caught the attention of a number of clubs, but it had been expected that he would return to play for Arsenal next season. However, Milan could provide him with more assurances for the future, with a formal offer expected in the coming days.
