Atletico Madrid linked with move for Cazorla
Atletico Madrid are being linked with a move for Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla, with the Spanish champions keen to strengthen for next season, the Independent has reported.
Cazorla, who has been a long-term target for the Champions League runners-up, is said to be hugely admired by Atletico boss Diego Simeone, who is looking to add to his attacking options after losing Diego Costa to Chelsea earlier in the summer.
Arsenal are unwilling to sell the Spaniard, who still has two years left on his contract after he signed an extension last summer. He joined the club from Malaga in 2012, and has been a key player for the North London club, scoring 19 goals and accumulating 23 assists in his 95 appearances. He was on target in the FA Cup final in May as the club ended a nine-year trophy drought.
Due to the amount of competition for places at the Emirates Stadium, Cazorla could be tempted by the prospect of moving to Atletico, who are also eyeing his Arsenal teammate Nacho Monreal. Simeone sees him as a possible replacement for Filipe Luis, who followed Costa to Stamford Bridge.
