Bebe completes move to Benfica

Saturday 26 July 2014

Manchester United striker Bebe has left the club for Portuguese champions Benfica, signing a four-year contract in a deal worth around £2.4m, the Guardian has reported.

Bebe

The 24-year-old was brought to Man Utd by Sir Alex Ferguson for £7.4m in 2010 after he was recommended by former assistant manager Carlos Quieroz. However, over his four years at the club, he made just seven appearances in the cup competitions. He scored twice, but never looked like challenging for a first-team place.

The deal with Benfica could rise to €3m, while they also have the rights to 50% of any sell on fee. Jorge Jesus has been persuaded to bring him to the Estadio da Luz thanks to his performances in Portugal for Pacos de Ferreira last season. A total of 14 goals in 39 appearances during a loan spell had him in contention for the Portugal World Cup squad.

This move ends Bebe’s nightmare time as a Man Utd player, and it comes after he publically announced his desire to leave on a permanent transfer, rather than be sent out on loan yet again.
