Roma rule out Man Utd move for Strootman
Roma boss Rudi Garcia has ruled out the possibility of midfielder Kevin Strootman leaving the club for Manchester United this summer, Sky Sports has reported.
Despite missing the chance to play under Louis van Gaal at this summer’s World Cup due to injury, Strootman has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, with reports in Italy suggesting that Man Utd had made a bid of £30m to try and tempt the Serie A runners-up into a sale.
Van Gaal has already signed Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao since being named the new Man Utd boss, but is looking for another midfielder for the Spaniard to play alongside. He is interested in Strootman, who has enhanced his reputation over just one season in the Italian capital, scoring six goals in 29 games.
But when asked about Strootman’s future, Garcia was adamant that the 24-year-old would still be at the club next season. He said: “Strootman is a Roma player, he will be a Roma player this year. There is no doubt about that. Only he can say whether he wants to stay but it was never an issue for him to go to another club. There is no question of it."
