Adam Lallana could well miss the start of his new Liverpool season after suffering a knee injury during training, according to Sky Sports.

Lallana is one of four latest additions to Brendan Rodgers’ changed Liverpool squad but will now have to wait to make his Reds bow after suffering the set back during their preseason training in America.

He had been set to make his debut against Olympiakos on Sunday but is now facing a spell on the sidelines – it was only the fourth training session he took part in for his new club.

A statement from the club read: “Lallana sustained a knock to his lateral collateral ligament during a session at the Reds' Harvard University training base in Boston.

“Lallana has been assessed by Liverpool's medical staff and does not require surgery.

“No specific timeframe has been placed on a return to fitness, but injuries of this nature can result in a spell of anywhere up to six weeks on the sidelines.”

Lallana joined the Reds from Southampton in a £25m deal and was expected to make his competitive debut against his former club in the season opener on August 17th but will now be a major doubt for the clash.

Liverpool also take on Manchester City and Tottenham early on in important fixtures and it will now be a race of time to see how fit the England international can be by then.
