Mata impressed by van Gaal mentality
Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata has said that new manager Louis van Gaal’s demands for perfection is what the club needs, the Guardian has reported.
The Dutchman has begun his Man Utd reign with a pre-season tour of the United States, just weeks after leading his country to third place at the World Cup in Brazil. He saw his side win 7-0 in their opening friendly against Los Angeles Galaxy, and then they followed it up with a 3-2 victory over Roma.
However, van Gaal was most unhappy about the manner of the goals they conceded against the Italian side, but Mata believes that can only be a good thing for he and his teammates. “After the game when we had given two goals away he was not very happy, but I think his way is that of a great manager,” said the Spaniard.
“He is very honest with the players, he says what he thinks and has a clear way of understanding football. We feel the manager is a great manager who has brought a strong mentality. This club is made for a winning mentality and I think he has it.
“He has had success in different countries. We are happy with him and the way he works. Everything is new but we are adapting well to his style of football. He is right to be demanding. As a player you want a coach like this, always demanding more and to play better and try to win the games earlier or in a different way.”
