Tottenham closing in on Southampton duo

Tottenham are close to completing deals to sign Southampton pair Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez, according to BBC Sport.

The two clubs are in advanced talks over the transfer of both players, who appear likely to add to the mass exodus that has taken place at Southampton this summer. Since the end of last season, Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers have all been signed by title-chasing clubs for a combined total of £92m.

Scheiderlin is also reportedly a target for Arsenal, but he could favour a reunion with former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane. Southampton value him at around £27m and will try and persuade the Frenchman to stay, but his time at the club could be about to end after six years.

Striker Rodriguez established himself as a Premier League striker under Pochettino last season, with his performances earning himself a first England international cap. He joined from Burnley in summer of 2012, but is currently suffering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which ruled him out of contention for the World Cup.

Spurs are looking to add more solidity to their midfield and more goals to their attack, and Pochettino will now be confident of securing Scheiderlin and Rodriguez.
