Schneiderlin angry at Southampton transfer refusal
Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has reacted angrily to the news his club will refuse to sell him amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Sky Sports is reporting, with the player making his feelings known on social media.
Schneiderlin and team mate Jay Rodriguez had been heavily linked to interest from the Spurs camp, with former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino keen to link up with his old charges once again.
However Chairman Ralph Krueger moved quickly to squash any rumours by insisting that both he and Rodriguez would remain at St Mary’s for next season and indeed continue to be key players in the squad.
The player is thought to have told both executive director Les Reed and CEO Gareth Rodgers he wants a move away – and news of Krueger’s comments caused him to react angrily.
Schneiderlin wrote on his Twitter account: “6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour !!!”
Southampton have seen their squad who impressed last season picked apart during the summer months, with Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Callum Chambers and Dejan Lovren all leaving for greener pastures – following former boss Pochettino out of the exit door.
Reacting to questions over the two player’s futures Krueger stated that they would not be sold by the club.
“They are part of the core that we have decided to keep in Southampton," Krueger said. "Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin are not for sale.”
