Everton star Ross Barkley has penned a new four year deal with the club as he looks to build on his impressive breakthrough season, Sky Sports is reporting.

Ross Barkley

Barkley shone during Everton’s last campaign making 34 appearances in the league - and earned himself a call up to England’s World Cup squad this summer where he featured in all three games.

Many pundits predict a bright future for the 20-year-old and with a host of top clubs being linked with his signature will have delighted fans by committing to the club until 2018.

Barkley joined the club as an 11-year-old and was prepared to make his debut as early as 2010, only to break his leg in three places whilst on England U19 duty.

The youngster has recovered incredibly and eventually made his debut in 2011, before becoming a regular part of the first team squad last season.

On extending his nine year stay with the Toffees Barkley said: “Signing a new contract is a dream. I've played for Everton most of my life and this is a big thing for me.

“It didn't take any persuading. As soon as I got told about it I wanted to sign.

“I don't go looking for new contracts, I go on the pitch hoping to play well and earn that contract and I seem to have done that throughout last season.”

Barkley’s performances even landed him of the PFA young player of the year shortlist, and his new contract has also delighted manager Roberto Martinez.

The Spanish boss was pleased to have secured the future of Barkley ahead of the new season to end any speculation surrounding him, allowing the player to concentrate on his pre-season.

Martinez said: “Ross has signed a new contract to reflect his new role and development.

“To be able to tell our fans that Ross has signed a new contract that reflects the role he has in the team, gives us a real continuity and consistency going into the season, which is vital.

“The reality is we are desperately looking forward to the new season and Ross is going to be a major, major part of anything that is happening at Everton Football Club.”
