Van Gaal to offer Kagawa United lifeline
New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is prepared to offer Shinji Kagawa a chance to impress at the club despite growing speculation he could leave, the Daily Star is reporting.
It was thought that Kagawa could be one of the players the Dutchman would let go from his new squad – with rumours of a potential swap deal with Borussia Dortmund for Mats Hummels, but will instead give him a chance.
However Kagawa has been warned he will have to play out of position if he is to fit into van Gaal’s favoured 3-5-2 formation.
United have Jaun Mata, Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj alongside the Japan international who can play as the no.10 but it will be Kagawa that will lose out on his preferred position.
After their latest preseason game the new manager stated he wanted to try the Japanese midielder in a no.6 or no.8 role instead – despite being so impressive as the no.10 for Dortmund and earning himself the move to Old Trafford.
Kagawa has struggled to make an impact since arriving in England and only made 14 starts on the Premier League last term.
